In the Konno Town village area there are 3 junior schools but many of the secondary students are having to walk up to 5 miles a day to attend the nearest available school.
After discussions with the local village elders we purchased half an acre of land in order to start to create a new secondary school. In recognition of this the local community “gifted” us another half acre of land.
Phase 1 of the project is to build 2 classrooms, an office and staffroom, Phase 2 will be the construction of a six cubicle toilet block and it is planned to add further classrooms as funds permit.
The project started on March 24thwith the clearing of the land and the digging of the foundations. EVERYTHING on site is done manually (no cement mixers etc) by builders from the community, which gives them a sense of ownership of the project and provides a wage for them and their family.
