In March I was invited to talk to the 99 pupils about my work in Sierra Leone. I explained to them the differences between the life that children in Sierra Leone have compared to their lives here in the UK. I showed them pictures of typical houses, explaining that most of the children I deal with have no water, electricity or inside toilet. I showed them pictures of some typical classrooms at two of the schools I am supporting.

At the end of the session the Headteacher asked them to express their thoughts regarding what they had seen and heard and it was amazing to hear the comments from the children, who had been very attentive during the talk.

The School Council met after my talk and decided that they wanted to undertake some fundraising to help to fund the making of desk and bench sets for the Kunduma School which is located 175 miles east of Freetown.

On Monday I went back to the School to give them an update, following my latest trip, and to set them the “Smartie” Challenge. All the children were given a tube of Smarties for them to eat and were asked to then put loose change into the tube and bring the tubes back into school by Friday 7th June.

The children were all really eager to take home their Smarties and I am hoping that they will raise a good sum of money which will “Make A Real Difference” for the Kunduma School community.
