Kunduma is a school for about 150 children situated 175 kilometres east of Freetown. It is a very poor community and currently there are NO toilets at the school.
The first tranche of money has been sent so that work can begin to dig the latrine pit and then build the tank. ALL the work is done manually – the pit is12 foot x 6 foot x a minimum of 12 feet deep. The guys will use pick axes and shovels to dig and as they get deeper they will remove the spoil by a bucket & rope system. They have received adequate funds to complete the tank and form the concrete base but further funding is neededĀ for the actual building and the installation of the toilets. We also plan to install a basic water harvesting system so they can collect rainwater from the roof, store it in a 1,000 litre tank which will feed into a sink so the children have hand washing facilities.
